1,103,874. Domed roofs for tanks and buildings. UNION TANK CAR CO. 24 March, 1965 [22 April, 1964], No. 12436/65. Headings E1T and E1W. A domed roof for a storage tank or a building comprises a gridwork of support members formed of an inner series of arches running at right angles to an outer series 17, with smaller section members forming intermediate arches 44 which are attached to each inner arch at crossing points, and also to the roof sheeting 60 intermediate the inner arches, the roof sheeting also being attached to the outer arches. All connections may be welded, and adjacent roof sheets are overlapped and welded. A graph is disclosed to determine arch spacings. The steel roof sheets are attached to the arches after they have been assembled, e.g., on the floor of the tank, and raised to a suitable level for attachment to a mounting ring surmounting the tank body.
