Abstract

1,103,357. Moulding hollow building blocks. F. DUFFTY. 9 Nov., 1966 [10 Dec., 1965], No. 52452/65. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] An apertured building block 1 which is open at at least one end comprises a rectangular wire mesh frame 5 having concrete panels 2 precast at least on its longitudinal sides, the blocks in a wall being laid dry to provide a continuous cavity for a poured lightweight concrete filling in which the exposed mesh 5 is embedded. The meshes 5 of adjacent blocks may be wired together as at 6, and expansion joints may be provided at intervals. Horizontal and vertical reinforcing rods 7, 8 may be provided. A dampproof polythene film may be placed on or preformed on the inner faces of the panels. The blocks 1 are used in conjunction with end blocks, Fig. 3 (not shown), having precast concrete panels on three sides, and corner blocks 11, Fig. 6. The blocks are cast in a mould 13, Fig. 7, having its four sides hinged to a base 14 and held together by pivoted interengaging clips 16. Upstanding dowels, Fig. 8 (not shown), on the base serve to locate two complementary wedgeshape core members (18) which co-operate with small blocks (17) to locate the wire mesh frame and to define cavities for the concrete panels. The inner face of one or more of the mould sides may be patterned.
