A portable container has a flexible side wall 19 and a mouth 14 around which the side wall is turned back to form a skirt 13, providing a latching surface 23 perpendicular to the plane of the wall, an end-closure 11 of resilient material having a depending flange 16 with a shoulder 24 at its lower end to provide a transverse latching surface 26 for engagement with the latching surface on the container wall. As shown, the latching surface 23 is inside the container wall 19 and the latching surface 26 is on the outside of the closure flange 16, but in a modification, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), a skirt (37) is formed around the outside of a container wall (19) to provide a latching surface (39) for engagement by a latching surface (44) on the inside of the closure flange. The mouth 14, Fig. 2, of the container seals against the base of a groove 31 in the closure cap 11. A mechanical capping ring 32 applies the cap 11 to the container, forcing the shoulder 24 inside the skirt 13 to the latching position. When in place, the closure 11 is not normally removable, access to the container being obtained by the use of a can opener &c. The latching surface (23<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 2a (not shown), on the container wall skirt, may be inclined upwardly and outwardly for engagement with a correspondingly shaped surface on the closure cap. The container may be made of flexible metal, plastics or laminated foil, and the closure cap 11 of plastics. In the modification of Figs. 6-8, the closure cap (42) is formed around the outside of its depending flange (43) with scallops (48), engaged by resilient fingers (52) on a capping ring (51) when it is forced on to the container. The skirted section of the container wall (19) is gripped between ridges (45) around the groove in the closure cap into which it is forced. Container closures.-In another modification, a pull tab (36), Fig. 5 (not shown), is provided on top of the closure (11), which has its depending flange formed at its lower edge with castellations (35, 35<SP>1</SP>), leaving a series of discrete latching surfaces (24). Reinforcing webs (34) connect the castellations to the top (12) of the closure, which is flat. When the tab (36) is pulled, the top (12) of the closure cap is bowed upwards, thus drawing the castellations (35) around the cap skirt inwards to disengage the latching surfaces (23, 24) for removal of the cap &c.
