A structural units is formed as a shaped sheet, e.g. 1, 2 or 3 (Fig. 2) wholly or principally of synthetic plastics material and comprises two arms 4, 5 meeting at their ends 6 to lie at an angle to each other, at least one arm being of flat-bottomed trough shape deepening towards the arm junctions, the trough sides 14 being flat and meeting the bottom 13 at an obtuse angle, all edges having flanges 9. Each arm 4, 5 may be substantially rectangular in outline or one arm may be so, the other tapering. One arm may have two sideby-side troughs 47, 48 as in Fig. 24 (not shown). The arms may join at an angle which is a right angle, obtuse or acute. The sheet may be a sandwich of glass-fibre-reinforced polyester resin inner and outer layers and a core of synthetic plastics foam or just a glassfibre-reinforced polyester resin. At least one arm may have an aperture or apertures for a window 15 or door 16 (Fig. 2). The unit 1 may be used with a foundation to form a shelter. Two units 1 may be used back to back or joined together opposite each other by their flanges or a unit 1 and unit 24 (Fig. 5) (not shown) can be so joined to give a structure of varying height with or without an infill. An inverted unit 1 may be used for shuttering or two inverted units I to form a retaining structure. A unit 1 may be used for a lean - to. A circular structure may be formed by joining tapering units. A round-ended building may be made with straight and tapered units. The unit may be used as a roof structure, the angle being at the top pairs of units. Pairs of units 24 may be used to form four sides of a box structure. The structure of Fig. 2, which has a floor of bolted metal battens, may be mounted on a base of trough-like units 34 (Fig. 22) (not shown) of substantially frusto- V-shaped cross-section bolted to form a raft, which may receive steps 35 and rainwater gutters and may be filled with anchoring ballast or used to store water or contain pipes lor cables. Abutting flanges of adjacent units may be bolted together. In an unit wherein the junction angle is obtuse the trough comprises two arms in continuation. Such units may be attached to form an arch or a cylinder. In a final unit with right-angled arms the trough is within the confines of enlarged flanges.
