Abstract

To prevent layers of yarn sloughing, the yarn, wound on a rigid support, is enclosed below atmospheric pressure in a flexible plastics envelope. As described, the yarn is cross wound on a flat or cylindrical card-support, which, after steam shrinking, is placed in a plastics envelope which is evacuated and sealed by fasteners or by welding. The plastics film may be extruded directly round the bobbin followed by evacuation and final sealing.
