Abstract
1,096,944. Feeding fibres to machines. F. REITERER and L. WINDISCH. Dec. 15, 1964 [Jan. 4, 1964], No. 51041/64. Heading D1N. A shaft supplying fibres to a carding machine has one or more partitions extending and arranged to reciprocate longitudinally within it and one or more, preferably two, oscillatable flaps pivoted near its lower end. The partition 7 which is provided at its bottom end with a tamper 36 may be raised by an eccentric 28 driven from the doffer of a carding machine and may descend by its own weight. Other eccentrics 33, 33' are driven from the shaft of eccentric 28 and bear upon flaps 9, 9' so affecting the latter that they are in a closed position when the partition 7 is in its uppermost position. The bottom of the shaft is closed by compressing rollers 11, 11' that feed the fibres from the shaft in association with a conveying roller 12. In order to prevent overfilling of the shaft, feeding flaps are located at its upper end and are connected to discontinue the supply of fibres if necessary. The surfaces of the partitions and flaps may be constituted by a material that electrostatically attracts dust and the carding machine may include a device to break this attraction when required.
