Abstract
1,096,876. Centrifugal pumps. FELUWA SCHLESIGER & CO. KOMM. GES. June 21, 1965 [July 1, 1964], No. 26070/65. Heading F1C. A centrifugal sewage pump comprises an annular cutter 11 which at least partially encircles the inlet 8, a sector 15 of the cutter adjacent the discharge end of the volute 1 being either omitted entirely or, as shown, of reduced height. The remainder of the cutter 11 increases in height to provide a helical edge 12 which preferably extends up to the back plate of the impeller 2, the edge thereafter falling away steeply, for example vertically as shown at 14. Stones and other small solids pass through the pump while large fibrous and other solid matter which would otherwise clog the pump are shredded by a shearing action exerted by the back plate of the impeller in co-operation with the cutter 11. The cutter 11 may be detachable. The cutwater of the volute is made sharp so as to remove any shreds of material clinging to the outer edges of the impeller vanes 3, 4.
