Abstract

1,095,764. Switch contacts; arc rupturing in switches. SVENSKA ELFABRIKS A.B SELFA. March 9, 1965 [March 9, 1964], No. 10014/65. Heading H2B. An electrical switching device has at least one fixed and one movable contact per pole arranged in such a way that in their closed position the contacts are subjected to a contactpressure augmenting force produced by the current flowing through the contacts and upon interruption of contact a resultant electromagnetic force is produced tending to blow out the arc. The fixed contact comprises leg 10 joined by conductive hinge 12 to leg 11 urged against the movable contact comprising main contact 8 and auxiliary contact 9 by spring 13, a stop being provided comprising bolt 14 insulated from legs 10, 11. When the contacts are closed current flows through leg 10, hinge 12 and leg 11, the magnetic fields of the current causing a contact pressure augmenting force. On actuation of the switching device, the moving contact moves upwards and leg 11 pivots so that contact is finally broken between the free end of leg 11 and auxiliary contact 9, the electromagnetic forces produced blowing out the arc beyond the free end of leg 11 into arc control device (17) having arc-chutes (18). Operating handle (2) operates the device through an unspecified mechanism.
