Abstract
<PICT:1094367/C1/1> A method of working a transparent material, such as boring a hole 3 in glass, by a laser beam 2 comprises applying a medium 4 capable of absorbing laser beam energy at a surface region of the material and then directing the beam into the material towards or through the medium. The medium 4 may be vaporized metallic layer of between one hundred and several hundred nanometres thickness. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,021,909.
