Abstract

1347264 Actuators K F ELLINGSEN 26 Feb 1971 5551/71 Heading F1P An actuator piston rod 8 connected to a valve closure member (not shown) is automatically extended, to close the valve, when the pressure supply to the actuator is cut off. Cylinder 1 is surrounded by an accumulator chamber 2 and, at the head end, is connected by a passage 23 either, through a vent passage 25, to a return reservoir or, through a passage 24, to accumulator chamber 2 according to the position of a slide valve 20 actuated by a differential piston 18; whilst the rod end of the cylinder is connected through a duct 28 to either a pressure supply duct, or a return duct, according to the setting of a two position valve 12. In the position shown, valve 12 also connects pressure through a non- return valve 13 to the accumulator chamber 2 and, through a duct 14, to the upper end of piston 18 thereby effecting the rearward stroke of actuator piston 5. On switching valve 12, piston 18 and valve 20 is urged upwards by a spring (26), thus connecting the head end of the cylinder to accumulator 2; the rod end being connected through duct 28 and valve 12 to return.
