Abstract
1,090,414. Cathode-ray tubes. RANK ORGANISATION Ltd. Sept. 22, 1965 [July 27, 1964], No. 29827/64. Heading H1D. In a cathode-ray tube the neck and cone portions other than the face-plate carrying the fluorescent screen are formed of a soldered assembly of tubular ceramic portions and intervening metal portions. The faceplate 1 carrying the phosphor layer 2 is of glass and the tube 9 carrying a mesh electrode 10 may be of metal or of ceramic with a conductive coating. The deflector plates are coatings on parallel or flared inwardly projecting portions 23; 28, 29 of ceramic bodies 22, 27. The intervening metal rings 18, 25 &c. have channelled outer portions to which the ceramic bodies are soldered. Metal rings 34, 40 and 44 carry electrodes 36, 42, 46 and may be pierced or of spider form for evacuation purposes. A metal exhaust tube 14 is provided as shown. The cathode 48 is carried by insulator 47 within the modulator electrode 46 and the tube foot comprises an assembly of metal members 52, 64 and ceramic members 52A, 55. The ceramic bodies 22, 27 may carry spiral conductive coatings to form deflection coils in place of deflector plates.
