Abstract

1,088,182. Liquid cargoes transferring. F.M.C. CORPORATION. Oct. 16, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 42291/64. Heading B8E. [Also in Divisions B7, E1 and F2] A mooring for the transfer of fluid cargoes through pipes between a ship and a shore storage installation comprises transferring apparatus 15 supported by a frame 45 being pivotally secured to anchors 25 and having a flotation tank 78 and fenders 68. Fluid transferring conduits 95 of limited flexibility are connected between a coupling 102 of a supply pipe 104 and a slide block 96 of a frame to which a stop 110 rigidly connects them. Connection between the conduits 95 and a ship's manifold 159 is by means of a loading arm 120 of the frame. Frame 45 is pivotally secured to a pin 30, Fig. 4, between brackets 28 of the anchor 25 and by means of bearings 38, 62 and arms 32 limited movement of the fenders is possible. The rigid lower section 122 of the loading arm 120 is pivotally connected to the ends 108 of the conduits 95 and is secured by chains 54 to a cross piece 53 of the frame 45 so that the latter can touch the sea bed in its rest position. To secure a ship 90 for fluid transfer the frame is raised by compressed air supplied to the flotation tank 78 through a hose 82 connected to a marker buoy and the ship is manoeuvred broadside adjacent the fenders 68 and its mooring lines 152 are connected to buoy lines 137 so that operation of mooring winches 150 draws the ship on to the fenders. Support lines 157 from winches 155 are then secured to the frame 45 a valve opened to allow the tank 78 to flood through a control tube 79 leaving the frame supported by the lines 157. Ship tackle then elevates the loading arm 120 so that connection can be made to the manifold 159.
