Abstract

1,248,649. Off-shore structures. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 21 Nov., 1969 [9 Sept., 1969], No. 57122/69. Heading EIH. In a one-point mooring-system for a marine vessel a pipe 10 is attached to a fixed foundation 12 by a universal joint 16 and, by way of swivels 21, a rotatable housing 19 and swivels 37, inter-connects a pipeline 18 and a hose 38 through which the vessel receives or discharges a fluid cargo. A mooring buoy 28 is secured to a shaft 23 on the pipe 10 by a chain 32 and a swivel 34 and to arms 29 on the housing 19 by chains, or cables, 30 so that when the vessel veers the buoy turns accordingly. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the pipe 10 is connected to a conduit 43, which replaces the hose 38, by conduits 40, 41 and a swivel 42 on the buoy. The joint 16 may be replaced by a chain 50 and chains, or cables, 30. A buoyancy chamber 22 supports the upper end of the pipe.
