Abstract

1,083,704. Valves. E. HERION. Sept. 1, 1964, No. 35695/64. Heading F2V. A pilot controlled multiway valve has an inlet 2, work ports 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and exhaust ports 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, the communication between ports 3, 4 and 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> being controlled by respective pistons 14 co-operating with annular seals 15, whilst the communication between ports 2, 3 and 3<SP>1</SP> is controlled by a doubleacting poppet 19 co-operating with annular seats 17. As shown, differential actuating pistons 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are provided, the latter being the larger and being controlled by pilot valve 11. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) equal area actuating pistons are used, each piston being controlled by a respective pilot valve. The poppet is larger in area than pistons 14 so that fluid at the inlet tends to maintain the valve in position.
