Abstract

Vaporizers, external.-The engine may be placed in communication with either a petrol or a paraffin carburettor or both by a throttle valve which is rotatable in an exhaust-heated casting which serves to preheat the fuel and vaporize the mixture. A petrol carburettor is attached to the casting at S, and a paraffin carburettor at R, the passages F, P from these carburettors being controlled by a passage L in the throttle valve T, a portion of the periphery of which is cut away to form shoulders A, B which engage a stop C. The casting has covers N, N<1>, N<2>, the cover N having attached thereto a pipe X for the inlet of exhaust gases which enter the chamber 0, then pass through three transverse passages, one of which Z is shown, to a chamber O<1>, thence to a chamber O<2> and escape by the pipe E on the cover N<2>, The paraffin, before entering the carburettor, passes by a pipe P<2> through the exhaust pipe X<1> and then through a pipe G in the exhaust space O<2>. The induction pipe J may be jacketed and air or a priming charge may be admitted thereto through a pipe D provided with a cock near the steering- column of a vehicle.
