Abstract

174,131. McVail, J. B., and Arnatt, F. Sept. 22, 1920. Vaporizers, external.-In a vaporizer in which the fuel is vaporized, then mixed with air and the mixture heated, the mixing-device comprises an air valve and a gaseous-fuel valve working together. In the form shown, fuel from a valvecontrolled nozzle e and a small quantity of air from an inlet e<3> pass through a vaporizing tube b in an exhaust jacket a to a mixer f, and the mixture passes to the engine through a heater tube c in the jacket a. The mixing-device comprises a tube f<3> working over an adjustable cone f<4> and having outlets f<5> in the upper part. An air-admission valve f<2> is mounted on the tube f<3>, and the combined air and fuel valve is actuated by engine suction and controlled bv a dash-pot f<6>. A throttle valve g may be provided between the mixer f and the tube c. The exhaust jacket a is provided with a baffle d, so that the exhaust entering at a' passes first over the mixture tube c and in a reverse direction over the vaporizing tube b to an outlet a<2>. In a modification, the mixture tube c and a cylindrical baffle corresponding to d are coaxial with a cylindrical exhaust jacket, and the vaporizing tube b is coiled in the annular chamber around the cylindrical baffle.
