Abstract

In a circular multifeed machine having two independently operating selecting means preceeding each feed, the second in the sequence is capable of modifying selections of the first. Jacks (14, Fig. 1 not shown) are moved into the range of the selecting means by movable cams (180-6) guiding the bottom of the jacks radially outwards. Unselected jacks are pushed clear of lifting cams (162-8) by fixed cams (170-6). Needles of unselected jacks or needles passing an inoperative selecting means pass through the feeds at low or tuck level depending on the position of bolt cam (92). At a first selection (152) jacks are raised by lifting cam (168) so that the intermediate jacks raise needles either to tuck or low clearing height, depending on the position of bolt cam (116). Selected needles take the kint yarn fed at a low level only. A further selection is made (154) of needles to be raised to high clearing level to take any yarns at that feed. At the following feed, needles selected first (156) are raised to high clearing level by intermediate jacks engaging lifting cam (130). Tuck and low clearing needles, depending on the position of bolt cam (132), are selected before the feed by further selecting means (158).
