Abstract

1,075,397. Sliding bolts. R. DALLAIRE. Nov. 2, 1964 [March 19, 1964], No. 44585/64. Heading E2A. A sliding bolt mechanism comprises in combination a housing 11, a bolt 14 adapted to be slidably and rotatably contained in said housing, a spiral slot 16 in said housing, a handle 15 projecting from said bolt which is adapted to project through said slot, spring means 13 normally urging said bolt out of said housing, and a base member 10, said housing being removably affixed to said base member. The main housing member 11 is in the shape of an inverted U with base portions 11a, 116 having tracks 17a, 17b for receiving lugs 18a, 18b on a housing floor member 12. The upper surface of floor member 12 is arcuate so that when in position in the main housing a cylindrical bore is formed. The rear of the base 10 has two fingers 25, 26 to act as stop members and a spring finger or detent 27 projects from the rear of the base and is normally inclined upwardly and rearwardly from the point at which it is united with the floor of the base. The housing is held on the base by a lug 27a on the detent and cannot be moved until the detent has been moved downwardly. In the operative position the bolt 14 projects well beyond the base and housing but is completely contained therein in the inoperative position. The spring is maintained in its central position in the housing by a wedge shaped 11d on the rear wall of the housing, the other end of the spring being received in the open end of the bolt 14. As the housing is removed horizontally lugs 20b on the housing abut vertical projections 23b, 24b on the base member so that the housing must be freed by moving it vertically.
