Abstract

1,073,468. Wells etc.; lining tunnels &c. with concrete. E. BERGSTROM. June 22, 1965 [June 30, 1964], No. 26932/64. Headings E1F and E1S. Apparatus for excavating and lining with concrete tunnels or shafts comprises a shield 10, shuttering 15 adapted to form a cavity 20 for grout to form the lining, and double acting jacks 16 connecting the shield and lining for advancing the shield and drawing the shuttering after the shield to form the cavity. The front of the cavity is formed by an annular wall 19, 24a fixed to the shuttering. The ends of each jack are respectively connected to a shell 11 connected to the shield, and a ring 18 fixed to the shuttering. After grout has been pumped through a pipe 22 into the cavity to form part of the lining the jacks are extended to advance the shield and the jacks are retracted to advance the shuttering which may be connected with a further length of shuttering (Fig. 3, not shown). In a modification (Figs. 4, 7, not shown) the shell is dispensed with.
