Abstract
Hydrazine derivatives are made by reacting an isohydrazone of the formula <FORM:1066054/C2/1> where R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group, R2 is an alkyl or aryl group, or R1 and R2 together represent a polymethylene chain and R3 is hydrogen or alkyl, with an acid reacting compound which is a carboxylic acid anhydride, a sulphonic acid chloride or a phosphorochloridate. The reaction may be effected in the presence of a solvent or at elevated temperatures. Examples relate to the preparation of (1) maleic hydrazide, (2) benzenesulphonylhydrazone, (3) the compound of the formula <FORM:1066054/C2/2> (from methyl ethyl ketone isohydrazone and acetic anhydride), (4) the compound of the formula <FORM:1066054/C2/3> (from methyl ethyl ketone isohydrazone and propionic anhydride), (5) N,N1-di-(o-carboxypropionyl) hydrazide, and (6) the compound of the formula <FORM:1066054/C2/4> (from methylethyl ketone isohydrazone and diphenylphosphorochloridate). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to the Specifications 890,334 and 893,388.
