Abstract

Formyl sulphonamides of the formula <FORM:1022874/C2/1> wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom, an acetyl group, a guanyl group, a substituted carbamoyl group, e.g. N-butyl-carbamoyl or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic ring, e.g. a thiazolyl - (2), 4,5 - dimethyl - oxazolyl - (2) or 6-methoxy-pyridazyl-(3) ring, are made by reacting the appropriate sulphanilamide with a mixed anhydride of formic and acetic acids or a mixture of formic acid and acetic anhydride. The products are separated by distilling off the excess formylation mixture together with any solvent, if used, or by precipitation by addition of water.
