Abstract

1,065,050. Vehicle buff and draw gear. WHITING CORPORATION. Oct. 12, 1965 [Feb. 17, 1965], No. 43177/65. Addition to 1,035,847. Heading B7T. A towing railway vehicle having wheels 165 mounts apparatus by which part of the weight of a railway car 82<SP>111</SP> may be transferred to the vehicle. The apparatus comprises a housing 166 swingable about a shaft 168, an arm 179 swingable about a pin 178 by means of a piston and cylinder (199), Fig. 2 (not shown), a pin 183 journalled in the arm portions 179a, 179b and keyed to a U-shaped member provided with surfaces 186, 187 engaging the car, a piston and cylinder assembly 190 trunnioned at 193 and provided with a car hook engaging link 197, and a piston and cylinder 170 which may be operated to cause the surfaces 187 of the U- shaped member to engage with and lift the end sill 45<SP>111</SP> of the car. Cables (203, 204), Fig. 2 (not shown), attached to the U-member may be pulled to swing the member and the assembly 190 in a horizontal plane and cables may also be provided to swing the assembly 190 about the trunnions 193.
