Abstract
438,927. Road-vehicle couplings. ANGELINI, G., 30, Via Pagano Doria, Genoa, Italy. Feb. 22, 1935, No. 5798. [Class 79 (iii)] In a vehicle coupling of the kind in which the coupling pin 3 drops automatically into the eye 11<1> of the drawbar 11 when the parts are brought together, a lever 7 pivoted in a slot 6 in the pin head is shaped to form a catch 10 which drops into engagement with a tooth 14 on the coupling member 1 to secure the parts in coupling engagement, the catch being released and the pin raised by a pull on a chain or cable 9 controlled from the driver's seat. The pin 3 may be retained in the raised position, set for coupling, by a Z shaped trigger member 4, Fig. 1, pressed by a spring 4<1> into engagement with a recess 5 in the pin or by a pivoted arm 21, Fig. 4, drawn by a spring 23 into position under the pin, either form of detent being pushed back to release the pin by the eye 11<1> as it enters the coupling member 2. The drawbar 11 is preferably resiliently connected to the trailer frame 18 through the intermediary of a spring 16 compressed between lugs 15, 15<1> on the drawbar and collars or sleeves 17, 17<1>, carried by plates 19 fixed to the frame 18, the thrusts being transmitted through washers 20, 20<1>.
