Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1062877/C2/1> (in which R1 and R2 represent alkyl radicals or, together with the nitrogen atom, form a monocyclic, saturated heterocyclic ring) are prepared by liberating the corresponding aminoalkyl a -thienyl ketone from an acid addition salt thereof by treatment with calcium hydroxide in the presence of an aromatic solvent having a boiling point between 100 DEG and 200 DEG C., reacting the resulting solution with a phenyl magnesium halide prepared in tetrahydrofuran, removing the tetrahydrofuran from the reaction mixture and liberating the product from its magnesium complex. 1 - (a - Thienyl) - 1 - phenyl - 3 - piperidino - 1 - propanol is characterized as the picrate, and 1 - (a - thienyl) - 3 - dimethylamino - 1 - propanone hydrochloride is prepared by the Mannich reaction.
