A dental unit, for use in conjunction with a conventional dental chair, comprises a cabinet member supported on the upper end of a column member integral with or connected to a cantilevered arm, the other end of which is directly mounted on the floor in pivotal manner to permit horizontal movement of the cabinet member in a circular arc. As illustrated in Fig. 2, cabinet member 1 is mounted on column member 3 by bracket 2 which preferably allows vertical adjustment of the cabinet member relative to the column member. The column member is integral with cantilevered arm 3a, that end of the arm distant from the column member being pivotally mounted on the floor, preferably in a position vertically below the head rest of the dental chair, by roller bearing 4 supported on plate member 5, which is fixedly mounted on base plate 6, which serves as a mounting for the chair (not shown). The cabinet member may include a wash basin and may have a stepped upper surface to provide a plurality of supply and working areas. The cabinet member and column member may be hollow to house dental instruments, for example high and low speed drills, associated operating service equipment, for example compressed air, water and suction means, and their actuating means. Such instruments and equipment preferably are adapted for selective withdrawal from, and automatic retraction to, their housed position within the cabinet member. The hollow column member, to the interior of which access is afforded by slot 13, preferably openly communicates with the interior of the cabinet member for the passage of electrical wiring and supply tubing for the operation of the instruments and equipment.
