Abstract

1,061,987. Winding and wrapping machines. VERBANDMITTELFABRIK LANGENLEUBA VEB. Dec. 2, 1963, No. 47460/63. Heading B8C. [Also in Division F2] A length of material is wound on to one of several spindles 40, Fig. 2, carried by a rotating spindle carrier (5, Fig. 1, not shown) and a strip of wrapping paper is secured round each roll. In the form shown, material is fed from one of several cells (I-IV, Fig. 7, not shown) between a fixed rubber-covered driving cylinder 19 and removable rubber covered rollers 20 to the starting point at the level of the knife 30. The material is then pulled downwards through a funnel 31 by air suction to the spindle carrier where the start of the material is held at a grating 34. The spindle carrier is then driven (clockwise in Fig. 2) through one interval so that a spindle 40 enters the winding position (Fig. 5, not shown), pressing guide box 32, rocker 36 and lever 35 aside and then allowing them to spring back so that the material is caught around the spindle. The spindle is then rotated by a belt (113, Fig. 7, not shown) until a predetermined length of material has been wound on to it, when the material is severed by a knife 30. The wound spindle is then moved on one interval past a smoothing device 37 into a wrapping device, the jaws 38, 39 of which are opened to receive it by a cam (120, Fig. 3, not shown). A packaging strip 143, severed from a reel is glued and fed between an accelerating cylinder 50 and a stressing roller 49 to the wrapping shell 39 where it passes between the roll on the spindle 40 and inwardly biased smoothing rollers 42, 43. Feed roller 55 for the wrapper is flattened so that the strip is momentarily at rest when cut by knives 58, 59, the pause being adjusted by screw 66 and a strip tensioner 65. When the wound spindle 40 is released from the wrapping device it is carried by further advancement of the spindle to an ejector. The free part of the spindle 40 is urged into the throat 71 of the ejector, spreading clamps 72, 73 to allow the wound and wrapped spindle to enter a cavity 76 and causing the ejector to rotate about its shaft 80 so that a slide block 78 engages a worm thread 81 which moves it axially to push the ready for sale product off the spindle. The machine is constructed so that the material carrier will lock in the work position only if a cell is charged with a reel of material, a contact being wrapped as a cell empties. If a fully wound spindle is not in the wrapping shell 39, the packaging strip is fed into a waste container and, in the event of no material being wound on to a spindle, the machine stops. As the material is wound a cam (119, Fig. 3, not shown) rotates the feeding cylinder at a faster rate (see Division F2). Exchangeable and/or adjustable means are also included to process the material in different widths.
