Abstract
1,059,505. Feeding sheets. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK A.G. HEIDELBERG. Jan. 13, 1965 [March 6, 1964], No. 1523/65. Heading B6B. In sheet feeding apparatus wherein an auxiliary pile table is used to support a depleted pile, so that the main table can be replenished and thus enable sheets to be fed continuously from the apparatus, the auxiliary table 1 is fitted on the main table 12, Figs. 5, and 9 to 16 (not shown), and comprises a lattice-like frame 2 in which there are two groups of rollers 5, the surfaces of one group projecting beyond the upper surface of the table 1, and the surfaces of the other group project beyond the lower surface of the table. The frame 2 has handles 3, extensions 8 for engagement by an auxiliary pile raising means, and has webs 6 which support the ends of the rollers. A narrower frame 4 secured to the frame 2 has roller supporting struts 7 which are reduced in height in a stepwise fashion, so that they taper towards their free ends. In the frame 2, there are several groups of rollers 5, each group comprising two rollers, one above the other and of equal diameter; and the frame 4 comprises several groups of rollers which decrease in diameter to suit the stepped struts 7. In modifications, a larger lower roller co-operates with two offset upper rollers, Figs. 8 and 19 (not shown), or upper and lower rollers are offset so that they do not touch each other, Fig. 17 (not shown). In use, the auxiliary table 1 is placed directly on the main table 12, and located thereon in some cases by a ribbed guard frame 10, Fig. 4 (not shown), and the pile table 12 is raised intermittently by a conveyer 21, Figs. 9-16, as sheets are separated from the top thereof by suckers 22. When the pile is depleted to a predetermined extent, an auxiliary conveyer 20 engages beneath the extensions 8 of the auxiliary table 1 and continues the intermittent raising of the pile. The main table 12 is lowered, a second auxiliary table 1 is placed thereon, a new pile is stacked on the combined tables, the new pile is raised until the top sheet thereon engages the first auxiliary table 1, and the latter is then gradually pulled out so that the depleted pile rests on top of the new pile: all this is accomplished during the continuous separation of sheets by the suckers 22. The rollers 5 &c. in the auxiliary table 1 facilitate easy withdrawal from between the two piles. In modifications, the rollers 5 &cmay be driven through chain means by a handcrank, to facilitate easier withdrawal of the table; or a strap &c. 25, Fig. 18, can be pulled against the action of a return spring, from a " roller-blind " means 26 to drive all the rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> frictionally as the table is withdrawn.
