Abstract

Coating compositions comprise polymers of molecular weight 5000 to 9,000,000 of tetrafluorethylene per se or with a telogen, in the form of a suspension or dispersion in water or an organic solvent (many listed) plus a free radical generator which may be potassium persulphate, benzoyl peroxide, 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl peroxide, tert-butyl perbenzoate, succinic acid peroxide, hydroxyheptyl peroxide, bis (1-hydroxycyclohexyl) peroxide, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-tert-butyl hexyne peroxide, a compound containing the group > N-Cl, a metal alkyl, an amine oxide, a hydrazin salt or 2,21-azo-bis-(2-methyl-propionitrile). The coatings are cured by heating.ALSO:A method for applying a P.T.F.E. resin coating to a cutting blade comprises applying a P.T.F.E. resin and a free-radical generator to a blade and thereafter curing the blade at a temperature of from 25 to 300 DEG C. The free-radical generator may be an organic peroxide, a compound containing the group >N-Cl, a metal alkyl, an amine oxide, a hydrazine salt, 2,2\sv-azo-bis (2-methyl-propionitrile), or potassium persulphate. The resin dissolved or suspended in an organic solvent or water may be applied by brushing, spraying or dipping. The process may be applied to carbon steel or stainless steel razor blades. The blades may first be degreased and they and the coating composition may be preheated.
