Abstract

1,055,268. Clamps. NORTH WESTERN SPECIALITIES Ltd. Oct. 30, 1963 [Oct. 30, 1962], No. 40946/62. Heading E2B. A clamping bracket for connecting one rod to another comprises a first pair of plates 10, 11 adapted to grip one rod between them and a second pair of plates 13, 13 formed as a pair of jaws arranged and V-formation to grip the second rod between them, rear ends of the jaw plates passing through a slot or slots 12 in an adjacent one 11 of the first pair of plates 10, 11 and being connected together at each side and to the other 10 of the first pair of plates 10, 11 by nut and bolt means 16, 17, the tightening of which pulls the jaw plates 13 further through the slot on slots 12 causing them to close on to the second rod and to pull the first pair of plates 10, 11 towards one another to grip the first rod. As shown, all of the plates 10, 11 and 13 are serrated and the jaw plates 13 are provided with stepped cut-away portions 14a to permit an extension of the first rod to be clamped between the jaw plates and the adjacent plate 11.
