The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1044346/C2/1> in which the dotted line indicates that the compound is singly or doubly bonded in the 10(11) position, Y0 is a halogen atom and each of X and X1 is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1- 5 alkyl, C1- 5 alkoxy, C2- 5 alkenyl, halo-C1- 5 alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, C- 4 acyl, C1- 4 haloacyl, amino, C1- 5 alkylamino, di-(C1- 5 alkyl)amino, hydroxy, halo-C1- 5 alkoxy, cyano, carboxy, carbamoyl, C1- 5 alkyl-carbamoyl, di-(C1- 5)-carbamoyl, C1- 5 alkylmercapto, mercapto, halo-C1- 5 alkyl mercapto, C1- 5 alkylsulphonyl, C1- 5 alkyl-sulphonyl, C1- 5 haloalkylsulphonyl, sulphamoyl, C1- 5 alkylsulphamoyl group and in which more than one substituent may be on each benzenoid ring, and a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula <FORM:1044346/C2/2> in which Y is a hydrogen or halogen atom, comprising hydroborating a compound of the formula <FORM:1044346/C2/3>
