Abstract

Material in sheet form 14 (Figs. 1 and 2 not shown) is passed in contact with a roller 22 which has an absorbent surface and is p sprayed with fluid from nozzles 34 so as to coat the sheet with a film of the fluid. The roller or rollers 22 may comprise a steel frame covered with canvas, muslin or flannel. A number of nozzles 34 are mounted on a duct 32 and can be individually or collectively actuated so that the spraying pattern may be adjustted e.g. to suit different widths of sheets. In addition all the nozzles may be subjected to an on-off cycle so that the amount of fluid delivered can be adjusted. The duct 32 is adjustable in angle and position. Bars, cylinders and I-beams may be coated by employing a complementary roller sprayed with fluid.
