Abstract

Contamination of rollers used in the treatment of cloth e.g. dyeing, is prevented or reduced by keeping the temperature of the roller surface adjacent to the dew point of the atmosphere around the roller. This may be achieved by passing a heating medium within the roller which is formed of a non- corrosive metal, e.g. stainless steel provided with a coating of hard chromium plating. Each batch of cloth may be connected to a cleaning band which has a cleaning fluid absorbed therein and which cleans the roller surface as it passes there over. The cleaning band may be coated on each side with a spongey material. Water spraying apparatus may be located relative to the roller so that water can be sprayed onto the cleaning band before it passes over the roller surface.
