Abstract

Dyestuffs containing at least one group -SO2-CH2CH2-S-SO3X wherein X is H or an alkali metal, are employed as reactive dyes to colour fibres of cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol. The dyes may be prepared by the action of sodium thiosulphate on dyes containing at least one vinyl sulphone group. The dyes may contain other groups including -SO3H groups. The dyes may be from the mono- or polyazo, metallized azo and formazane, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine, azine, dioxazine, nitro, stilbene, triphenylmethane and nitrosonaphthol ferrous lake series. Examples are given of dyeing in which a number of dyes are specified.ALSO:Dyeing or printing fibres of natural or regenerated cellulose or of polyvinyl alcohol or mixtures thereof, with a dyestuff containing at least one group: -SO2-CH2-CH2-S-SO3X wherein X is H or an alkali metal and fixing in the presence of an agent having an alkaline reaction in water. The alkaline agent may be applied before, after or together with the dye. Fixation may be carried out at 10-200 DEG C by rolling up at room temperature, heating or steaming. The preferred dyes are of the azo, anthraquinone or phthalocyanine series, are water soluble and contain at least one -SO3H group. The dyes may be applied together with an electrolyte, urea, dispersing or thickening agents. The fibres to be dyed may be blended with other synthetic, e.g. polyester, fibres. Examples are given.
