Abstract

A method of producing piston type compressors, Fig. 1 (not shown), having similarly dimensioned cylinders 2 and pistons 1 but differing work capacities, comprises forming one or more apertures 10 in the walls of the cylinders communicating with intake silencers 8, the capacity of the compressors depending on the position of these apertures from the upper dead centre position To. The cylinder 2 is covered by a valve disc 3 having an intake valve 5 and a pressure valve, and the silencer chambers 8 are connected by channels 9 to an intake valve chamber 6 and by access bores 11 to the media being compressed. The apertures 10 may be in the form of bores or axially extending slots, and the total cross-sectional area is equal to or greater than the effective cross-sectional area of the inlet valve 5.
