Abstract
In a loom inserting cut picks of weft, loops of selvedge thread are inserted into the shed at the edge of the fabric. The thread passes through a warp stop motion detector and through the reed to the eye of a curved needle projecting from a shaft lying fore and aft of the loom; the shaft is reciprocated end wise and simultaneously turned so that the eye of the needle follows a helical path into and out of the shed. A vertical pin is also moved fore and aft, and is depressed to restrain the loop of thread as the needle retracts from the shed; forward movement of the pin, before it rises to clear the reed, draws the loop towards the fell.
