Abstract
The warp of a fabric is supplied as a sheet of material wound on a beam and is slit into strips as it is drawn past stationing razor blades by the pull of the fabric take-up motion; multi-layer strips may be obtained by folding them after cutting, or by winding two or more sheets together on the beam, or by superimposing sheets from separate beams before slitting. The sheet material may be polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, metal foil used by itself or applied as a backing to other material, non-fraying textile material, or paper. A pattern may be printed on the sheet material. Ordinary warp threads may be supplied from a separate beam, or from the creel of Specification 970,212, and interspersed among the strips. The weft threads (and any threads in the warp) may be jute, hemp, sisal, flax, cotton, pineapple or hollyhock fibres, wool, silk, or synthetic. The threads may be thick to enable the fabric to be napped. Alternatively, the weft may be flat or twisted strips. The fabric may be two-ply, or may be made tubular by weaving two plies together at the edges or along weftwise lines. One or more warp threads or strips in the selvedges may be thicker than the rest. Healds. The healds for the warp strips have eyes in the form of horizontal slots with a constriction in the middle.
