Manipulating apparatus, suitable for feeding and delivering discs to and from a rolling mill, includes a pair of buckets A and B positioned at right angles to one another on a pivot pin 13 and adapted to support the discs. The buckets are pivotable about 90 degrees by a piston and cylinder assembly 24, and arms 14 and 16 are similarly each pivotable through 90 degrees by assemblies 20 and 28 (Fig. 1, not shown). A guide roll assembly 31 shifts discs between the vertical bucket A or B and the mill, the roll 37 co-operating with guide rolls in the mill during rolling. In operation, a disc blank is fed in the direction 38 to the then horizontal bucket B from a support 14A, and a rolled disc is delivered by the assembly 31 into the bucket A, the assembly sliding along a supporting surface 36. The arm 14 and hence the buckets A and B are then rotated by the assembly 20 through 90 degrees. The new blank is fed by the assembly 31 to the mill and the rolled blank removed from bucket A. The arm 16 is then operated to rotate the buckets back to their original position for a new cycle. Each of the assemblies 20, 24 and 28 is single acting upwardly and provided with a throttle valve for controlling downward movement.
