Abstract
1,034,868. Printing apparatus. AGFA A.G. June 19, 1963 [June 22, 1962], No. 24426/63. Heading B6C. An inking mechanism for incorporation in a rotary printing machine as a readily detachable unit comprises a forme roller 9 for contact with a forme cylinder 2 of the machine and a ductor roller 25 arranged for adjustable step-by-step advancement to supply ink to the forme roller. The mechanism also includes means for raising the forme roller from the forme cylinder and means for interrupting the drive for advancing the ductor roller, the interrupting means being so coupled to the raising means that when the latter is operated to raise the forme roller the ductor roller drive is interrupted. The raising means also effect separation of the forme roller, an ink distributer roller 5 and a damping roller 10 of the mechanism. A distributer roller 5 is carried by a spindle 4 forming part of a frame 6, itself part of the mechanism unit. Fixed on the spindle 4 at both sides of the frame 6 are cam discs 14, a setting lever 34 also being fixed to the spindle for rotation thereof together with the discs 14. The latter have cam surfaces 14b and 14c which on rotation of the lever in a clockwise direction respectively urge the bearings 7 and 8 of the forme roller 9 and the damping roller 10 radially outwards against springs 16 and 17. This rotation therefore lifts rollers 9 and 10 away from the roller 5. The discs 14 have in addition surfaces 14a which during the above mentioned rotation contact the bearings 7 and pivot the frame 6 together with the spindle 4 so that the forme roller 9 moves from the cylinder 2 against a spring 11. Through a stop 35 linked to the lever 34 the interruption of the ductor roller drive is positively combined with the separation, by way of lever 34, of the inking and damping rollers and also with the movement of the roller 9 from the cylinder 2. The lever 34 pushes the stop 35 into the path of a stop pin 22a on a lever 22 which is oscillated thereby causing step-by-step advancement to be transmitted to the ductor roller 25. A setting lever 37, which may be looked in a number of fixed angular positions, is used to control the magnitude of each step of advancing movement of the ductor roller by simply placing a stop 37b in predetermined locations along the path of the oscillating lever 22.
