Abstract

1,032,783. Venetian blinds. HUNTER DOUGLAS INTERNATIONALE (QUEBEC) Ltd. May 14, 1963 [Sept. 3, 1962], No. 33739/62. Heading E1J. A conventional venetian blind comprising horizontal slats 4, Fig. 1, held between at least two tape ladders 5 is mounted in a permanently extended non-vertical plane by securing the upper or lower tape 1, 2 of each ladder to a rigid support 3 at points along its length, the unsupported tape being connected to means for tilting the slats. As shown the upper tape 1 of each ladder is fixed to a wooden rail 3 and the lower tape 2 is connected to cord-actuated tilt rolls 7, 8. Friction brakes (not shown) may be provided to hold the slats in a tilted position. One of the rolls 7, 8 may be omitted and the other operated by a flexible shaft. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the tapes 1, 2 are spaced at each end by rigid plates pivoted to the rail 3, one plate being connected to a tilting cord while the other is biased by a return spring or weight. In a construction wherein the wooden rails 3 are replaced by hollow rails 24, Fig. 3, secured by end caps 25, to hollow rails 23, the upper tape 1 of each ladder is supported at a number of points by U-shaped plates 26 whose legs 27 grip the reentrant sides of the rail 24. The lower tape 2 is connected at the left hand end to a return spring or weight (not shown), and at the right hand end to a tilt roll 31 actuated through a brake and control mechanism 32 which may be operated through a flexible shaft. The tapes 1, 2 are held spaced by plates 28 clamped to the first and last slat. A fixed slat 34 closes the opening on the right.
