Abstract

1,032,387. Feeding webs. DIAMOND NATIONAL CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1964 [Oct. 16, 1963], No. 39412/64. Heading B6B. In a reel stand 10 for feeding a web W to a two drum web winder, Fig. 6 (not shown), a web-roll 66, is supported between a pair of carriages 34, Fig. 2, each carriage mounted for movement on parallel guide rails 28. The web-roll 66 is urged against a driven drum 22 by a pair of fluid cylinders 76, the piston-rods 78 of which co-operate with extensions 38 on the carriages 34. Fig. 4 illustrates a cross-section of a guide rail 28 which comprises hollow sections 30 to receive the roller elements 42, 44 of each carriage. The bearing support 50 of each carriage is adjustable transversely of the carriage by means of a screwthreaded axle 58 which can be turned with a handle 64. This enables the web-roll 66 to be correctly aligned. The web W can be additionally adjusted transversely, with a roller 82, Fig. 2, pivoted at one end and movable with a hand wheel 102 at the other end. The drive for the drum 22 is taken from the two-drum web winder via a reverse core pulley system and reversing gears, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). Adjustment of the pulley system provides adjustment of the tension in the web between the reel stand 10 and the two drum web winder, due to the differential speed. In a modification, Figs. 7 to 9 (not shown), the reel-stand 10 is mounted on a base so that it is capable of being reciprocated transversely of the direction of feed of the web with respect to the base.
