Abstract

1,031,305. Closure caps. AMERICAN FLANGE & MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. Aug. 4, 1964 [Nov. 25, 1963; Feb. 11, 1964], No. 31245/64. Heading B8T. A metal closure cap 1, Fig. 9, comprises a top 2, a skirt 3, a tearing ear 7, a pair of scores commencing at points spaced from the lower edge of the skirt and having portions 15, 16 extending up the skirt in parallel relationship and portions 11, 12 extending at least part way across the top 2, and a pair of slits 17, 18 extending upwardly from the lower edge of the skirt, unscored but weakened portions 55, 56 being provided between the scores and the slits. In the embodiment shown, the slits 17, 18 are closed along their entire length, whereas in a modification, the slits are open towards their lower ends. The cap is formed from a blank, Fig. 4, score portions 15, 16 flowing outwardly and notches 24, 25 being provided at the sides of the tearing ear 7. In the modification, the notches have an increasing width towards the blank edge. When the blank is cupped to form the cap, the notches 24, 25 close up to form the slits 17, 18 and the flared score portions 15, 16 move together to form the parallel score portions in the cap. The cap may contain a resilient gasket 19.
