Abstract

1,030,437. Tractor/trailer hitches. INSTITUT FUR LANDMASCHINENUND TRAKTORENBAU. May 23, 1963, No. 20593/63. Heading B7T. A tractor/trailer hitch comprises a tubular member 5, Figs. 1, 2, pivoted about a horizontal axis to a bar 3 pivoted about a vertical stud 2, a draw bar 20 slidably adjustable by means of a pin 21 in the member 5, a tube 17 around the member 5 containing a cable 18 slidable therein and fastened to power lift links, a housing 4 integral with the bar 3, and with the member 5 and draw bar 20 slidably and transversely adjustable on a rail 6 by means of a jointed foldable handle positioning a spring- urged pin 8 in one of a series of holes 7 (Fig. 6, not shown), and a tongue portion 10 integral with the housing 4 and having a recess 11 to accommodate the hook 28. In the retracted position the drawbar 20 may be raised by the left links and cable until a Bowden wire released sprung stud 15 within the housing 4, Fig. 7, enters a bore 13 in a lug 14 on the member 5. In this position the trailer eye which has been picked up is held between the hook 28 and the tongue 10. When used in the extended position the draw bar 20 is provided with a housing 23 containing a spring-urged slider 24 bolted thereto as in Figs. 1 and 3, so that after the draw bar has been lowered to pick up the trailer eye, and then raised again, a wedge head 25 on the slider engages the tongue 10 and forces the slider back against its spring to engage the hook 28 in a recess 29 in the slider and thus trap the trailer eye. If the pin 8 is held out of engagement with a hole 7 by the jointed handle, then the draw bar 20 and the housing 4 are able to swing over the rail 6 to give free towing.
