Abstract

1,026,652. Dry shavers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 15, 1963 [March 20, 1962], No. 10380/63. Heading B4B. In a dry shaver having a shear plate which can be depressed against spring action to a stop position, an adjustable stop member is provided for determining a variable stop position for the shear plate. Shear plates, Fig. 1, are supported on the teeth 6 of stop rings 5 each provided with a series of helical edge surfaces 7 which co-operate with a corresponding series of similar surfaces formed on the shaver housing 1. The stop rings are coupled together and are rotatably adjustable by means of a lever 11. In a modification, each stop member comprises a ring 17, Fig. 5, formed with recesses 19 for accommodating projections 16 on a shear plate 15, Fig. 8, each recess having steps 20 forming graduated stop surfaces for abutment by the respective projection. The rings are rotatably adjustable by means of a member 27. To permit removal of the shear plates, axial grooves 22 are provided in the inner surface of each ring next to the bottom stop surfaces. In another modification, Fig. 9, stop rings are provided on a common base plate 28 having a downturned edge 29 which rests on stepped or inclined wedges 30 which are adjustable by arms 31. In a further modification, Fig. 10, a rotary cutter 34 co-operating with a shear plate 33 is coupled to a driving shaft 135 which can be depressed against spring action to abut a shaft 235 which is axially adjustable by means of a stepped wedge 38 movable by an arm 39.
