Abstract

1,024,204. Barrel locks. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1965 [March 18, 1964], No. 8124/65. Heading E2A. A cylinder lock comprises a casing 14, a latch-operator sleeve 20 rotatably mounted within the casing, a key-cylinder 40 rotatably mounted within the sleeve and containing keyoperable tumblers 42, and a spring-pressed side-bar device 48, 62 movable in slots 49, 64 under control of the tumblers so that when the key 69 is not inserted, the sleeve is locked to the casing and the cylinder left idly rotatable, but that when the key is inserted the sleeve is freed from the casing and locked to the cylinder for rotation therewith by the key. As shown, the latch-operator 16 is coupled to the lock by a spring 18, Fig. 1 (not shown) which biases the sleeve 20 in one direction. A casing head 24 is rotatably engaged in a groove 22 in the casing 14 by means of an notch in the head and a gap in the casing wall. The parts 48 and 62 of the side bar device are loaded by springs 50 and 68 respectively.
