1,021,928. Induction heating. DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE A.G., and ALLGEMEINE ELEKTRICITATS - GESELLSCHAFT. June 5, 1964 [June 7, 1963], No. 23524/64. Heading H5H. An inductor for heating the ends of moving elongated stock, for example a rod 9, comprises two rectangularly-meandering parallel-arranged conductors A, B series connected by a member 10 and supplied at lug ends 11, 12. The cross members 1 . . . 4 and 1<SP>1</SP> . . . 4<SP>1</SP> of the conductors are conventionally fitted with laminated sheet metal stacks 5, and each pair of members 1, 1<SP>1</SP> . . . 4, 4<SP>1</SP> forms a heating zone in which the rod 9 may remain before passing to the next zone. The distance 13 between the conductors is adjustable either by bolts 14 and slots, or by replacing connector 10 by a water-cooled cable. Modifications include varying the number of pairs of cross-members (preferably always to an even number) and connecting in parallel two such aligned inductors, each having two pairs, Fig. 2 (not shown). If the rod has to move continuously, the inductor may move with it against spring tension which serves as a restoring force.
