Abstract

1,020,554. Door closers. GIRLING Ltd. June 4, 1964 [June 18, 1963], No. 22945/63. Heading E2M. A door closer comprises a metal arm 13 pivoted at one end to the door jamb 10 about an axis 14 substantially in alignment with the axis of the door hinges, the arm 13 engaging with or being secured to the door 11 by means of a lug 19 and a compression spring, e.g. an air-spring 18, pivotally mounted between the other end 16 of the arm 13 and a point 23 on a bracket 21 rigidly secured to the door jamb. The airspring 18 may form part of an hydraulic piston and cylinder damper. In the fully open position, the pivotal connections pass a dead-centre position so that the door is held in the open position. The lug 19 provided with a nylon pad 25 may be in simple abutting engagement with the door 11 or it may be secured to the door by a pin-and-slot connection.
