Abstract

1,020,348. Swaging machines. GESELLSCHAFT FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. March 20, 1964 [May 20, 1963], No. 11998/64. Addition to 992,678. Heading B3H. In a swaging machine according to the parent Specification, the rotatable housings 11 biased by backing pistons 22 are adjustable by mechanical gearing 23 for varying the stroke position of their hammers 2. The backing pistons 22 are subjected to pressure on one side only through ducts 32 fed by pump 31 and incorporating an adjustable pressure relief valve 33. Housings 11 are connected by rods 18 to threaded sleeves 19 which bear against the backing pistons and are themselves adjustable axially by worm wheels 23 meshing with worms 24. Opposite pairs of worms 24 are driven in unison through shafts 25, 25<SP>1</SP> by hydraulic motors 27, 27<SP>1</SP> respectively. The shafts 25, 25<SP>1</SP> may be coupled together by clutch 28 to permit simultaneous adjustment of all four hammers. Scales 34, 34<SP>1</SP> show these adjustments which may be performed manually or according to a preselected programme. Displacement of the backing pistons 22 under excess pressure may operate a contact which starts the hydraulic motors 27, 27<SP>1</SP> for opening the hammers. Limit stops 35, 36 are also provided. To eliminate backlash, each housing 11 is also biased by a second piston 38 in a cylinder 37 fed by pump 39 with a pressure smaller than that of the backing piston.
