Abstract

1,019,988. Pneumatic single stroke apparatus. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Oct. 13, 1964 [Dec. 4, 1963], No. 47966/63. Heading F1P. A pneumatic motor, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprising an operating piston 1 slidable in a cylinder 8 has a piston rod 5 provided with a cushioning piston 13 movable in a cushioning chamber 14 having at each end a recess 15 entered at the end of each stroke by the cushioning piston 13 to thereby compress air therein to retard the movement of the piston 1. Air compressed by the piston 13 passes to atmosphere through the space between the piston 13 and the wall 20 of the chamber 14, and ports 16 in the-wall 20. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the chamber 14 is defined by a sleeve 20a provided with a pair of axial spaced right and left hand internal screw threads 27, 28 which mesh with external threads on a pair of sleeves 34, 35 so that rotation of the sleeve 20a alters the axial position of the sleeves and thereby the depths of the recesses 15.
