1363021 Fluid operated piston and cylinder actuators E MANGSETH and R MANGSETH 14 Feb 1972 6748/72 Heading F1D Cushioning of a double-acting fluid-pressure operated piston 3 over the last position of its forward or return stroke beginning at a position determined by the distance of inlet/outlet ports 5, 6 from cylinder end covers 11, 13 is effected when an end 7, 8 of an axial piston projection 16, 17 passes port 5, 6 thereby forcing fluid trapped in the cylinder end to pass therefrom through a restriction formed between the projection end 7, 8 and the cylinder wall to an annular space 9, 10 formed between the main portion of projection 16, 17 and the cylinder wall and thence through port 5, 6. In a modification the projection end 7, 8 is in sliding contact with the cylinder wall and trapped fluid is relieved through restricted apertures (20) Fig. 3 (not shown) to space 9, 10.
