Abstract

1,018,543. Spray carburettors. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Jan. 30, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 3913/64. Heading F1B. A carburettor choke valve is controlled by a thermo-responsive device 23 which is adapted to be heated through pipe 29 by heat from the engine exhaust system and through a pipe 18 clamped to the housing of the device 23 by heat from the engine coolant system. The device 23 has a timetable coil in a chamber connected to the induction passage and by a pipe 29 to a heat stove 31 on the exhaust pipe whereby heated air is circulated through the chamber. In addition the casing of the device 23 is heated by pipe 18 carrying engine cooling water e.g. to a space heater 19 for the vehicle. At cold starting the device 23 holds the choke valve closed whilst shortly after starting it is opened by the action of the hot air from the stove 31. If the engine is re-started whilst the engine is warm, the temperature of the engine coolant in pipe 18 actuates the device 23 to hold the choke valve open.
